29 September 2003:  Whew!

Did you feel the gusting wind in Washington today?  That was me exhaling...  We had Ethan's first set of post-treatment scans a week ago Thursday (while Isabell was passing through) and FINALLY got the results back today.  They looked fantastic!!  My stomach has been in knots for the last 10 day and it feels really good to relax and enjoy this huge milestone.  I hope that this first set of scans is the hardest and that each gets easier from here.

Ethan's Oncologist was very pleased with the scans and also had a second piece of good news for us...  We had repeated (for the 3rd time) all of the Hepatitis C tests and they each continued to be negative.  This was a real roller coaster for us last summer and while we were confident that he did not contract the virus, we weren't completely able to shut the books on it... until now.  Whew!  What a windy day.

Ethan's actual check up went terrific.  All of his blood work is normal and he aced all of his neurological and physical tests.  He's also gained over 2 pounds and grown an inch.  Everyone who saw him couldn't get over how good he looks.  Most of them never knew him with hair and can't get over the difference.

Our only sad news is that we've somehow managed to loose Ethan's favorite hat. It was nearly beat to shreds from excessive wear, but had a patch sewn onto it from his favorite fire station, #36.  He wore it everywhere over the last year and is very sad that's its now gone.  We had spent last Sunday at Kings Dominion with other families from the Doctors Office and the hat tragically did not return with us.  I've put out an APB for it with their Lost & Found but still no luck after more then a week.  I suppose that if a hat is our only loss, we're doing pretty well, but its a heart breaker for Ethan.

I appreciate all of you who have called to check on Ethan - and the results of his scans.  I wanted to call you each back tonight with the good news, but time got away from me.  We hope to celebrate with everyone this weekend at the Lumpy Palooza!!

Warm Regards,

Kim.
