We removed Ethan’s PICC line today and can finally put this behind us
– hopefully forever. After his
check up, Dr. Horn reluctantly said that she didn’t need to seem him again
until after his MRI in September. As
soon as the words came out, she started to tear up and of course so did I.
It was very sad to say good-bye to the nurses and families and know that
we won’t be seeing them several times a week anymore.
This isn’t a social club that anyone wants to belong to, but you do
become very close and involved in each other’s struggles.
We’ll both miss a lot of the parents and especially the kids.
Ethan was very sad on the way home that he didn’t see his buddy Laura
and told me in a weepy voice “I hardly even remember what she looks like…
but I think she has hair now.” He’s
right, she does.
The actual removal of the line caused Ethan a tremendous amount of anxiety
but I don’t think there was any pain. He’ll
be able to shower in two days and swim/bathe in four – and is so excited about
both! Bert spent last night on the Internet searching around for a
water park that we can visit sometime over this weekend.
If anyone in the area would like to join us, email me back and I’ll let
you know where we settle on and when. We
plan to have a blast!
Also for those of you in the area, George Mason University is hosting
“Movies Under the Moon” starting this Friday and running through next
Saturday, the 19th. These
are free movies on the lawn so bring your blankets or lawn chairs.
Food and snacks are available from local restaurants with proceeds
benefiting INOVA Fairfax Hospital for Children and Special Love camps for
children with cancer. These are all
great movies (Harry Potter, Shrek, Willy Wonka, etc), so we plan to go to a few
and maybe will see some of you there. More
information is available at http://moviesunderthemoon.org/
.
I’ve gotten lots of advice from you all on how to dispose of the waaay
ugly sunglasses. I have to confess
that last week I looked the other way when Kyra picked them up.
A little Kyra-hurricane action was all they needed.
I was becoming very fearful that those were the ones that were going to
stick with me for the long haul. Whew!
Regards,
Kim.
