2 July 2004Stable MRI

We received the results of Ethan’s most recent MRI yesterday – and the scans are still stable!

The MRI itself was a big event for us this time around.  Ethan thought that he wanted to do it awake (so that he can eat beforehand, I think J) .  We tried to do it without anesthesia two weeks ago, but it was just too scary for him and too hard to lay still.  He did very well with the dry run, even with the head gear.  But when the time came to actually start the scan, it was so loud (with ear plugs) and his feet were moving a mile a minute ~ perhaps to compensate for the rest of his body being so still.  The movement was still too much for the imaging equipment, so the scans were coming out blurry.  By the time we realized we couldn't’t use the scans, I saw that his eyes were welled up with tears, so we immediately shut the process down and re-scheduled with anesthesia.  We made it through a looong 10 minutes and he was a trooper!  It may be several years until we can make it through 2 hours.

Ethan’s loving summer!!.  We started off with a week in our favorite place: Hatteras NC.  We've been going every year since long before Ethan was with us but had missed it for the last 2 years, for obvious reasons.  It was GREAT to get back and we had fabulous weather!  The kids loved the ocean and Ethan picked up bogey boarding pretty well.

Shortly after we returned, Ethan crossed another milestone: Preschool Graduation.  Who knew that they had such things?  I hear there's one for kindergarten, 6th grade, etc.  So this was just the first of many, I'm sure.  Ethan had the honor of welcoming the parents and introducing the first song.

He’s been enrolled in Chesterbrook Academy since last September and played t-ball int he spring and is now really enjoying their summer camp program 3 days a week.  He feels like such a big boy riding the bus and going on field trips.  Each week, though, he comes home having lost at least one piece of clothing.  By the end of the summer, he'll be naked.

His biggest news lately is that he’s learned to ride a 2-wheeler bicycle!!!  He shed his training wheels on Father’s Day and so far has only had 2 big crashes.  I don’t think he felt a thing either time, because we’ve got him in a helmet, gloves, knee and elbow pads.  Frankly, I can’t believe he can even walk, never mind ride, in all of the safety equipment we’ve mandated.

Thanks for your continued good wishes and here’s a little reminder of how far we’ve come in the last 2 years… Happy 4th of July everyone!!!

Regards,

Kim.
