We started off our week with terrific news! Ethan's test results all came back as NEC - No evidence of cancer!! We proceeded to schedule his surgery to remove his central line for July 8th.
Now to back up a bit... Saturday Ethan spiked a rather high fever (104+) and we were in close contact with his doctors all weekend - teetering on the brink of an admission. We went into the doctor's office early Monday and they drew blood cultures, although no other symptoms had occurred. We found out that his MRI from Friday was stable for the tumor but showed a sinus infection, which they believed may have contributed to the fever.
He's been fine ever since but I just got home from Veridian (yes, do a very little bit of work) and got a message that his cultures are growing a graham-negative infection of the rod variety. He's got to be admitted right away to start IV antibiotics and the line is coming out tonight or tomorrow morning. :-( We'll be in the hospital for a few days and hopefully can get this all worked through. Graham negative rod bacteria is very dangerous, but the good news is that he's now more then 3 weeks off of treatment and has pretty healthy blood counts.
I'll let everyone know how we fare. Please keep him in your thoughts.
Regards, Kim.
