Hi All-- This is Auntie Chaya. I have 2 more "Ethanisms" to share with you:
1. A few weeks ago when I accompanied Ethan to his oncologist appointment one of the nurses asked Ethan how he got so smart. (As we were watching the Lion King, he was naming all of the characters and forecasting all of the upcoming cartoon scenes.) Here's a transcript of our conversation:
Nurse: "Ethan, how did you become so smart?"
Ethan: "My daddy."
Auntie Chaya: "Well, what about your mommy, I'm sure she's taught you a lot."
Ethan: "Yup, my mommy too."
Chaya: "And what about your Auntie Chaya...didn't I teach you ANYTHING?"
Ethan (in giggles): "Noooo! Auntie Chaya, you only taught me how to get my car towed!"
For those of you who don't know, Randy and I watched Ethan and his baby sister for a few days in April. One morning when I was dropping Kyra, Ethan's baby sister, off at daycare, I parked in the wrong place. When Ethan and I came out of daycare to get into the car, we couldn't find the car! We looked at each other with these dumbfounded looks...we didn't know if the car was stolen, towed, magically disappeared, etc. Of course, Ethan thought this was a great adventure...the short of the story is that we ended up hitching a ride to the tow yard to rescue our car! It was a big fiasco that took over 2 hours to solve, but little Ethan cracked me up the whole time. His expressions and questions made me smile and realize that worse things could have happened. Ethan has told MANY people about how his Auntie Chaya parked in the wrong place and got the car towed. He's even reenacted the scene several times with his Hot Wheels.
2. A few days ago, Dr. Magram (Ethan's neurosurgeon), came by Ethan's hospital room to check the incision on the back of his head. Ethan wasn't too fond of the idea of Dr. Magram touching his head, so Dr. Magram said, "Well, Ethan, how about I just look and not touch your head? I'll put my hands behind my back, okay, so I won't be able to operate on your head..." Ethan looks up at him with a little sparkle in his eyes and said, "You can't operate on my head...you don't have your scalpel!!" Ha, he actually used the word scalpel. From what I hear, Dr. Magram was pretty impressed! :)
As Kim has conveyed to all of you, Ethan has started his first cycle of chemotherapy. All-in-all, he seems to be responding to the treatments with minimal side effects. As always, please keep sending Ethan good vibes and we'll keep you in the loop if there's any news about his condition.
