Kim took Ethan into the OR at 4pm this afternoon. At 4:55pm the Neurosurgeons "broke skin" as they called it. At 7:30pm, both Dr. Magram and Dr. Jebraili came to the waiting room to talk to the family post-OP. They told us that from a surgical perspective, it was a complete success. Once they opened Ethan up, they were able to access the tumor through the fluid-filled cyst that they had originally seen on the CT scan. This allowed them to minimize the amount of healthy tissue that they cut through to remove the tumor.
They reminded us that it will take a few days to get a full pathology report to answer the question of benign vs. malignant. They told us that Ethan was being moved to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and that he would be closely monitored for internal hemorrhaging. They also reported that he was
beginning to wake up and was scratching his nose as they left to come see the family. This is all EXCELLENT news for us, one more step towards recovery. We'll get more to you once we get a more detailed report from his Mom & Dad, who are with him right now in the P
ediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
