Good news - we're home a day early. The switch
from cisplatin to carboplatin allowed us to space the chemotherapy agents
closer together and saved us a 3rd night in the hospital, which was GREAT!
This cycle has been very unlike any of the others because of the switch.
Ethan was not sick (even a single time) and ate like a horse! I think
that the decadron usually has that effect but that it was always overpowered
by the nausea from cisplatin. Once he switched, we all
learned quickly not to get between him and his food. And the most
amazing part was that he actually seemed to put on weight during his 3-day
stay instead of dropping it. Unbelievable!!
I've also formulated my approach to our next Day 12.
This time I'm going to pack the night before in hopes that Murphy's Law will
work in my favor and my packing effort will be wasted. That's the best
case scenario. If the worst case happens and we still end up in the
hospital that night, at least I'll benefit from thoughtful packing instead
of the unusual assortment of items that I end up with when I've
packed in a 2-minute frenzy. We'll see how things go.
Ethan had a fantastic time last weekend at the fire
station. They even hooked up a hose for him after dinner, which he's
told EVERYONE about. He loved it!! Here's a picture as well.
I'm sporting my (grrrrrrrr) 10th pair of sunglasses. Its
taken a year, but I've finally learned to buy them two at a time.
They've been stepped on, pulled apart, sat on, flushed, run over by bikes,
cars, strollers, and so far one fire truck. It's really unbelievable.
Honestly, I had the same pair for four years before all of this started.
I feel a little bit like Elton John but at least get to try out lots of
different styles. Albert says my most recent pick is waaaay ugly, but
I figure I only have about 10 more days left on them. I'm at least
thankful that all of the bad karma in my life is being directed at my
eyewear instead of Ethan.
