Ethan just had his first MRI at a 4-month interval (rather then 3) and the tumor bed remains stable! The MRI brought with it the usual dose of fear and crying… Ethan vividly remembers when the civa made him so sick and absolutely dreads it. I went through my usual routine with the Anesthesiologist, who promised to only use propofol. When Ethan woke up in recovery vomiting, I asked the nurse to check his chart, and sure enough, the Anesthesiologist promptly switched him from propofol to civa as soon as he was under. It’s hard to find good help and I feel myself getting angrier and angrier with each MRI.
Prior to the MRI, we had just returned from a mini vacation out west, which was fantastic!! My Aunt and Uncle are spending this month vacationing in Colorado, so our family was fortunate enough to visit for a long weekend. We rented an Infinity FX, which Albert really enjoyed driving. Colorado’s finest promptly welcomed him with a hefty fine, or an appearance in Brekenridge traffic court next September. He elected to pay the fine and to watch his speed in the mountains a little more carefully. Ironically, he received the ticket going up the mountain – testament to how much he enjoyed that FX…
Other then that, summer is in full swing for us and we’re anxiously anticipating our annual pilgrimage to the outer banks next Month. I have recently changed projects at work, so my weeks are more hectic and in the fall I’ll be picking up an extra day of work. It is a huge concession for me, but I’ve grown very restless in my current job and think that I’m ready to re-engage in work with more challenge. So between now and then, we’ll be packing as much as we can manage into our summer!
Ethan’s anxious to start first grade and be a real “big kid” who eats lunch at school. He’s thrilled at the prospect and I’m just hoping that thrill lasts more then a week or two. We’re also gearing up for our next Ride for Kids event on September 25th. Sadly, my brother Randy and his wife Chaya won’t be joining us this year, as they will be just 2 days away from welcoming their first addition to the family! We’re all thrilled and Kyra has lobbied hard for them to name the baby “Clara.” None of us really know why, but she has definitely latched onto that name. Chaya and Randy have opted for the name “Aria” but Kyra is still filled with hope that they’ll change their mind.
Thank you for all of your continued thoughts and wishes for Ethan’s continued good health! Next MRI in November…
Regards,
The Gumabay Family
Kim, Bert, Ethan and Kyra.
